2013 Pantone Colour Forecast

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]

With Spring 2013 ready to take over from Winter 2012, here’s a quick look at colour trends to expect next season. Be the first to sport these shades in your outfits – you’ll be the fashionista to set style trends among your friends!
Next year’s key colours are:

The rationale behind these colours:
A varied palette of brights and neutrals create a balance between practicality and versatility. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone Color Institute, says, “The expression, ‘balancing act’ is something we all can relate to, as we strive to find harmony in the frantic pace of our everyday lives. The same can be said for fashion as we look for balance between light and bright, classic and new.”

Top designers share their inspiration for next season’s best hues:
Hervé Léger
Signature colour: Pacific Blue, because it’s versatile
Must-have item: a multifaceted jacquard dress with hints of blue, pearl blue, black and white – fresh, attractive and fearless.
Charlotte Ronson
Signature colour: Deep Lagoon, which represents water’s changing state.
Must-have item: striped tee and shorts, which sets a tranquil, oceanscape mood inspired by the element of water.
Tommy Hilfiger
Signature colour: Haute Red, True Blue, Bright Cobalt.
Must-have item: a red and blue, nautical-print, A-line silk dress.
Peter Som
Signature colour: Misty Jade – it’s a new pastel that has strength.
Must-have item: a jacquard bustier dress
Nicole Miller
Signature colour: Slate Blue – it’s much more interesting that traditional neutrals.
Must-have item: a georgette tunic or a shrunken jacket in assorted colours to keep your outfits interesting!

And now for the most important question of all:
“Is there a colour that complements ALL skin tones?”
“Colour is very personal, and like all the senses, the sight of colour can trigger different memories and emotions. I don’t think there is one colour that is universally great on everyone, except maybe Black, which is a boring answer, but is forever chic.” – Carson Kressley, fashion consultant
“I avoid neutral pastels and washed-out colours because I have a greenish/olive undertone. The one colour that looks good on everyone is Navy Blue.” – Jin Soon, celebrity manicurist
“A vibrant shade of Pink is one colour that complements almost all skin tones.” – Colleen Sherin, senior fashion director, Saks Fifth Avenue
“If I had to pick one colour, it would have to be Blue. It’s around us in so many shades – the sky, the sea – it’s nature’s perfect colour.” – Collier Strong, celebrity makeup artist

Emmagem’s opinion: It seems like Emerald is THE colour to watch next season (Pantone just announced it to be 2013′s colour of the year!) with hints of pastels thrown in for good measure. So, time to invest in more emerald-hued items! If you’re not a ‘colour’ girl, inject pops of bright shades into your outfits with trendy accessories, like bags or shoes.
P/s: Tangerine Tango (a bright, fiery orange) was selected as Pantone’s 2012 Colour of the Year.
