Beauty Obsession: Pretty Pink Polish

[As published on HERE]

We girls at Emmagem are huge fans of manicures (read up on Lily’s article on how to get stronger, shinier nails, or become your own manicurist with our super-easy tutorials), and we believe, we have jolly good reason to be!
Perfectly-shaped nails, adorned with colours to suit your mood – what’s not to love about that? It’s just like changing outfits, but in a way, more personal.
We asked the nail experts on what colours are most flattering on all skin tones, and they all agreed unanimously that pink is THE colour to go for.
Of course, different skintones look good with different shades, so here’s a general guideline on how to find your perfect pretty pink polish.
If you’re really fair (think Taylor Swift/Anne Hathaway): pale, grayish pinks work on you, and so do in-your-face brights and neons.
Stay away from: warm, orangey or peachy-pink shades, which will make your skintone look yellow.
If you have olive skin (think Kim Kardashian/Mila Kunis): go for metallic pinks or nail polish with glitter. They will make your fingers look longer!
Stay away from: pastel colours, which make your skintone look grey and washed-out.
If you’re blessed with tanned skin (think Tyra Banks/Zoe Saldana): rich, striking colours like fuchsia bring out the glow in your skin, but nude shades work well on you too!
Stay away from: shimmery, silvery-pink shades, which do nothing for your skintone and make your fingers look shorter.
And just for you, we’ve rounded up our pick of the hottest pinks on the market right now!
Perfect for parties/outings where minimal use of hands is required. These may rank lower on the practicality scale (in terms of both application and removal, which can be a nightmare!), but make great attention-grabbers.
1. Ciate Caviar Manicure Rainbow Kit, RM82, Sephora
2. Sephora Nail Patch Art in Valentine’s Day, RM35
3. Models Own Hot Stuff Topcoat, RM30, Luxola
Make these shades you go-to for everyday wear. Sensible enough for the office, yet chic enough for the weekend. Plus, nobody will notice even if they start to chip (teehee!), so you can stretch that mani for as long as you can handle.
1. Bobbi Brown Lilac Rose Nail Polish in Roza, RM65
2. Models Own Pro Sugar Plum Fairy, RM47, Luxola
3. Chanel Le Vernis in Frisson, RM70
4. Butter London Sweetie Shop Nail Lacquer in Kerfuffle, RM54, Sephora
Not everyone can afford Kelly Osbourne’s $250,000 (that’s roughly RM750,000!) diamond manicure, so for us mere mortals, metallic nail polish will have to do. What’s good, though, is that we don’t have worry about accidentally swallowing those diamonds.
1. The Face Shop Face It Repair Nails Hologram in PP401
2. China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Full Spectrum, RM25, Nail Fiesta
3. Nails Inc Nail Polish in Holly Place, Sephora
4. Essie Luxeffects Top Coat in A Cut Above
Now these pinks are definitely not for the goody-two-shoes! They’re as eye-catching as they can possibly be, so wear these colours with pride and work it with 100% confidence! Emmagem’s tip: paint on two contrasting neon shades for your fingernails and toenails.
1. Dior Vernis in Plaza, RM75
ProranceHoneyish Color in 02, RM16.90, Hishop
3. OPI Nail Lacquer in Suzi’s Hungary Again!, RM59
4. Nails Inc Crystal Cap Nail Effects in Notting Hill Gate, RM79, Sephora
