3 Novelty Beauty Trends You’ve Got To Check Out

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]

We’ve always been intrigued by the novelty side of beauty – when the brands come up with things you never expected to keep you on your toes. Here are three of our current favourites:
Self-adjusting foundation
What makes the concept of self-adjusting foundations interesting is that the colour pigments are encased in tiny capsules that break open when you massage them onto your skin. The foundation reacts with your body’s temperature, and is said to be able to match your skintone exactly. In a way, they’re kind of like those ‘mood-inspired’ lipsticks or lipbalms that change colour so everyone gets a slightly different shade. Cool, but we also remember having lips that were a funky sickly shade of pink, so we’re kind of on the fence for these ‘magical’ foundations.

Honey-textured skincare
Trust the Korean beauty brands to come up with interesting textures and packaging that we’ll fall instantly in love with. The sticky-sweet, gooey texture of honey seems to be a popular choice, and we can see why. It looks, feels and sometimes even smells like the real deal. And since honey is said to be great for the skin (it has deep-hydrating and anti-bacterial properties), anything that contains honey should be able to plump up your skin, especially if it’s dehydrated from all that air-cond exposure in the office.

Gel-effect nail polish
First off, let’s go through the pros and cons of normal nail polish versus gel polish:
Conventional polish
Gel polish
PRO: easily removable with varnish removerCON: chips like nobody’s business after 3 daysPRO: shiny, chip-free nails that last foreverCON: removal is a pain in the you-know-where
Fortunately for us girls who love that glossy gel-like finish, but want the convenient and low-budget option of removing said nail polish at home, our prayers are answered. Hallelujah! Plus, a bottle of gel-effect topcoat goes a long way, and can be used with any of your favourite existing nail colours so hey – there’s basically nothing to lose.
