11 Bestselling Holy Grail Beauty Products Of All Time

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]

Humour me and ask yourself this question: how many beauty products do you have in total? If you’ll allow me to make a wild guess, I’d say no less than ten. Judging by the fact that we’re all women, you would at least have two of each product you regularly use. Keyword being ‘at least’. Heck, I have two cleansers and four toners (and like five body shampoos) waiting to be opened.
With so many products available in the market, sometimes I admit it’s all trial and error. You spend a significant money on one product, only to find out it doesn’t work for you. But then again, if you strike gold, the product gets bumped straight up to Holy Grail status. Meaning if they stopped making that product, you’d be at a total loss and would be tempted to pull all your hair out and die.
That’s why we’ve put together a list of bestselling Holy Grail products of all time, so you’ll know you’re getting your money’s worth. Behold:
Cleanser
Senka Perfect Whip Cleansing Foam (RM19.90/120g)
Truth be told, Shiseido makes the best cleansers in the world. They lather up easily and don’t strip away the skin’s moisture. Senka is one of Shiseido’s more affordable skincare ranges (the other being Za), and the foaming cleanser has received lots of awards from Japanese magazines. It’s also currently the #1 cleanser in Japan.
Toner
Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (RM40.90/170ml)
One bottle is sold every 4 seconds in Japan! A combination of 3 types of hyaluronic acids work deeply to moisturise and preserve your skin’s optimum moisture balance. If you have normal or combination skin, this product alone is actually enough for our humid Malaysian climate. Plus, it absorbs to a velvety finish.
Moisturiser
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion (RM87/50ml, RM170/125ml)
According to allure.com, if you poured all the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotions sold in 2011 in a thin line, you’d be able to wrap the globe twice. Don’t let the unassuming unscented yellow fluid fool you.
Tinted Moisturiser
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF20 (RM169/50ml)
No other tinted moisturiser has won as many awards as Laura Mercier’s – no wonder it’s the brand’s star product. Everyone who’s tried this raves about it like no tomorrow. Apparently the finish is extremely natural, while the cocktail of antioxidants prevents skin from premature ageing.
Hand Cream
L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream (RM38/30ml, RM105/150ml)
Did you know that one Shea Butter Hand Cream is sold every 3 seconds in the world? It contains a high concentration of pure shea butter to keep your hands soft, even in the harshest of weather conditions. In cold countries, L’Occitane is one of the most popular beauty brands.
Multipurpose Balm
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant (RM85/50g)
This creamy salve is the answer to almost all your skin’s woes: tame unruly brows, condition your cuticles, soothe sunburns, protect lips, moisturise hands and legs, heal cracked heels and more with just one product. No wonder it’s still around after almost a century (it was developed in 1930 by Elizabeth Arden herself)!
All-Over Powder
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick (RM160)
Globally, one Shimmer Brick is shipped off to a new owner every 7.5 minutes! Even though it’s not a skincare product, the sheer number of people who swear by this is massive! The Shimmer Brick comes in 5 shades, and can be used all over as a blusher, eyeshadow, highlighter or bronzer.
Blusher
Nars Orgasm (USD29, approx. RM92)
No prizes for guessing which activity this product got its name from! The peachy-pink shade is interspersed with bits of gold shimmer, which flatters all skintones across the spectrum (though we think it’s more suitable for girls with fair-to-medium skintones).  The colour looks super-natural when swirled over apples of the cheeks.
Eyeshadow
Urban Decay Naked Palette (RM175)
When Sephora first opened its doors in Malaysia, the first thing to fly off the shelves was the Urban Decay Naked Palette. So much so that there was a waiting list for the product! The warm shades of brown look great on everyone. After the Naked Palette’s success, Urban Decay launched Naked 2, a series of cool-undertoned shades! Everyone’s happy!
Lipstick
MAC Lipstick in Russian Red and Ruby Woo (RM68)
Just try typing in either of these names on Google, and you’ll see what I mean. MAC is known for discontinuing their colours, only to re-launch similar ones with different names, but these two have been there forever and are still going strong. With a huge fanbase around the world (one makeup artist I know declares Ruby Woo to be the best red – EVER), it’s no surprise.
Hairspray
L’Oreal Elnett Satin (RM45/500ml)
Even before this product was available on Malaysian shores, all my hairstylist friends were stocking up on Elnett Satin like crazy, and they would lug back cans and cans of these from overseas! Why? Because it holds hairstyles under all sorts of conditions, and brushes out without leaving any white flakes. It doesn’t give your hair a plasticky sheen, so your styles still look naturally polished.
