Top 10 Salons in KL We Love (Part 1)

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]

Choosing the best salon doesn’t come easy. I’ve experienced horrifying cuts that resulted in horrible bangs for months, where my friends kept asking me why I cut my own hair (I didn’t!). On the flip side, I’ve also had magazine-worthy glossy locks that I can’t help but want to swish around. This week at Emmagem, we’ve put together a list of our favourite salons around town.

Best for: Face-flattering cuts

I’ve had my fair share of haircuts in Kuala Lumpur, but nobody makes me hair look as good as Klement Ang does. He takes time to talk to you before snipping off your locks (not many hairstylists do that nowadays), and at his salon, you don’t get the feeling that you’re being rushed through anything. By far, the best haircut I’ve had. And it lasts forever without going out of shape!
Where:  No. 3A-2, Jalan Solaris 4, Solaris Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.

The-Met-June-2011-4
At The Met, they have special stylists called Colour Technicians, who specialise in everything related to hair colouring. All Colour Technicians at The Met have had extensive training and experience in handling different types of hair, so they’ll be able to whip up something that matches you perfectly.
Where: 9, Ground Floor, President House, Park Royal Hotel, Jalan Sultan Ismail, 50250 Kuala Lumpur.

Best for: Value for money

Although new, this salon is steadily gaining a strong fan base. Owner Ridz Okumura and his Japanese wife run the salon by themselves, and from the pictures on their Instagram page, their signature perm is pretty popular. Instagram followers get to enjoy a promotion package of colour/highlight/perm + treatment + shampoo + blowdry for RM65 only!
Where:  Impian Meridian S01-13, Jalan Subang 1, USJ1, 47000, Subang Jaya, Selangor

Best for: Enjoyable ambience

Tucked away on the first floor of Bintang Fairlane Residences (located behind Lot 10), The Backstage Salon is indeed a hidden gem in the city. We love the vintage-inspired d├ęcor that’s a little old-Hollywood and a little country-style with the wood panelling. The owner, May Tan, is also well-known for her extensive work in top Malaysian magazines.
Where:  B1-1, First Floor, Bintang Fairlane Residences, 23, Jln Padang Walter Grenier, Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Best for: Getting star-struck

Albert Nico is more than a hair designer. He’s also an actor and photographer (check out his black and white photos on the salon’s facebook page above ). Plus, he’s fast friends with the who’s who in the industry (like Mama G, Datuk Yasmin Yusuff and Amber Chia), so you just might get lucky spotting a celebrity during your visit to his salon.
Where: D1&D2, Mezzanine Floor, Fahrenheit 88 (Formerly as KL Plaza) 179, Jalan Bukit Bintang , KL.
