Fall In Love With... Fragrances Inspired by Mother Nature

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]

Last month, we shared some tips on finding the perfect fragrance. Although not exactly rocket science, the choice of a scent that matches your personality and/or outfit is extra-important, because hey – wearing the same fragrance as every other girl is indeed a faux pas (especially if you don’t really like her, god forbid!).
Recently, I’ve been rather obsessed with natural fragrances. I find myself gravitating more towards scents that are inspired by Mother Nature. They’re more subtle, and less recognisable. I prefer my scents be shrouded in a thin veil of mystery, as opposed to having someone come up to me and go, “Hey! That’s DKNY Be Delicious you’re wearing, isn’t it?” (For the record I have never worn that fragrance, because I find it rather overcommercialised, pardon my honesty)

Also, natural fragrances tell you what notes are used to make up the scent. Mind-boggling ingredients like air, clouds, ice and steel are visibly absent, and for that, I thank my lucky stars. You won’t believe how many fragrances out there contain seemingly abstract ingredients that simply don’t exist…
Here’s a roundup of what’s in the market right now, all of which we love:

L’OCCITANE
La Collection de Grasse EDT, RM225 each
la-collection-de-grasse-01_i420x420
A quartet of scents inspired by Grasse, the birthplace of renowned perfumers and bestselling fragrances. What’s nice is that they’ve already paired the ingredients together, so you get a good balance of each key note. Take your pick from Jasmin & Bergamote (jasmine and bergamot), Magnolia & Mure (magnolia and blackberries), Vanille & Narcisse (vanilla and narcissus) and The Vert & Bigarade (green tea and bitter orange).

Jo Malone
Peony & Blush Suede EDT, RM225
p5630605
The latest addition to the ever-growing Jo Malone fragrance family, this one boasts top notes of red apple, middle notes of peony, jasmine, rose, and a suede base. With Jo Malone fragrances, you can even play ‘creative perfumer’ by layering different scents. They’ve come up with a technique called Fragrance Combining, which allows you to create your own signature scent.

Crabtree & Evelyn
Verbena & Lavender Cologne Spray, RM175
CE_VERBENA_HERO_3
Known for their single-note floral scents like Rosewater, Lily and Lavender, Crabtree & Evelyn’s latest offering pays homage to Provence, best known for its lavender. The citrusy, lemony scent of verbena is juxtaposed against relaxing lavender essential oils to kickstart your day the right way.

The Body Shop
Scents of the World EDT, RM83 each

Flowers from each region of the world are immortalised in these pretty coloured bottles. Vanilla flowers from Madagascar, cherry blossoms from Japan, night jasmine from India, roses from Atlas Mountain and wild lilies from the Amazon… there’s a scent for every woman.

Kiehl’s
Aromatic Blends Mist, approx. RM230 each
Kiehls-aromatic-blends
The pairings of Orange Flower & Lychee, Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit, Vanilla & Cedarwood and Fig Leaf & Sage leave us imagining each mouth-watering scent, and the actual fragrances do not disappoint. Despite the minimalist packaging, these scents are worth the splurge. Since they’re made from natural ingredients, these Aromatic Mists are also safe for pregnant women.
Have a great Friday, everyone!
