Get Your Glow On: How To Get Luminous Skin NOW!

[As published on HERE]
In Asia, we’re constantly trying to achieve a brighter, even-toned complexion that glows with a pearl-like luster. However, it’s easier said than done, what with our hotter-than-hot weather and unforgiving sun. Plus, Asians are more prone to dark spots. For Caucasians, they get a pretty smattering of freckles across the nose. For us, we get unsightly, asymmetrical spots that grow bigger and darker with age.
Thankfully, there is still hope. Just like anything else, prevention is better than cure, so Emmagem recommends practicing a diligent beauty regime from a young age. You might not notice such a big difference if you’re in your 20s, but twenty more years down the road, you certainly won’t regret starting early!
Here are some ways to get glowing skin:

Radiance-enhancing skincare products
Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector, RM155
What we love most about this eye cream is the size! The 15ml tube is just about the size of your index finger, which makes it super convenient for travelling. It comes with a metal applicator tip, which feels extra cooling on the eye contour. The cream absorbs quickly and dries to a velvety finish, creating a great canvas for eye makeup.

Estee Lauder Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator, RM240
Blotchiness, dark spots, dullness and uneven skintone are problems of the past with this illuminating serum. The iridescent creamy texture glides over skin smoothly, hiding traces of fatigue. Best suited for those with oily skin, the illuminator comes with a matching eye cream (with a unique ceramic applicator tip!) to banish panda eyes.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega Bright Skin Illuminating UV Face Protector SPF40 PA+++, RM170

A blend of natural ingredients like Rosa Roxburghii (high in Vitamin C), Licorice (brightens skin) and Salicylic Acid (improves cell turnover) instantly improves skin’s clarity and radiance. This sunblock is also infused with micro bits of shimmer to fake a pretty glow on your face. We like the non-sticky finish, which is pretty rare in sunblocks. A great investment, we say.

Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Spot Control Base UV SPF35, RM155
This makeup base combines multiple benefits in one nifty 30ml tube. It lightens dark spots, evens out skin tone and brightens the complexion, all at the same time. Having tried it for ourselves, we’re pretty impressed by the brightening effect. Coverage is sheer but buildable, so you can skip foundation and concealer. Comes in three shades: Ivory, Green and Pink to fit all skin tones.

Eat your way to luminous skin
Water splashing into glass
Every morning before you wake up, drink 16 ounces of chilled water (that’s one pint) before you brush your teeth. According to Men’s Health, a recent German study revealed that by doing this, you actually boost your metabolism rate by a whopping 24%! Drinking lots of water helps the body flush out toxins and keep your system clean. When your body is cleansed, your skin will glow from within.

Green Tea

We’re not just talking about drinking it. Get creative with ways to consume green tea, which is packed with polyphenols and catechins. Catechins are powerful antioxidants that help prevent premature ageing. Try green tea noodles, smoothies, soy milk, bread… the list goes on! Green tea food items aren’t hard to find in Malaysia – check out places like Jusco and Shojikiya for your green tea fix.

Papaya contains an enzyme called Papain, which helps break down proteins and removes dead skin cells. It’s also rich in Vitamin B, carotenes, flavonoids, fiber and minerals, all of which are beneficial to the skin. In Taiwan, papaya milk is a very popular drink, and is said to give you flawless skin and bigger breasts (though we don’t know how far the latter part is true).

Low in fat and high in fiber and protein, eating yogurt regularly helps your skin retain its elasticity. Choose natural, unsweetened yogurt over heavily sweetened fruit-flavoured ones, which contain more sugar. You can eat it with cereal, or make a fruit smoothie. You can also try Greek yogurt, which contains twice the amount of protein and fiber.
