Made With Love: Handmade In Malaysia Beauty Products We Love

[As published on HERE]
Remember when handmade soaps were all the rage a few years back? The craze died down after a while, but there’s just something about handmade beauty products that we can’t seem to say no to.
Painstakingly made with love, these products seem to transform predictable bathtimes into a ritual worth looking forward to every day.
Here are our favourite handmade beauty brands which have withstood the test of time. Best of all, they’re all lovingly made here in Malaysia!
Kinder Soaps
Kinder Soaps founder Michelle Ho started making her own soaps when her baby daughter Andrea (now 5) developed eczema. And so, the brand’s signature Goat’s Milk and Patchouli soap was born. From a humble home-based kitchen with only one type of soap to an outlet at Jaya33 with a whole selection of soaps, moisturizers and body scrubs, Kinder Soaps has come a long way. The name ‘Kinder Soaps’ stems from Michelle’s belief that what you use on your skin has to be safe, and free from artificial fragrances, preservatives, SLS and parabens.

Dark Chocolate Mint Patty Soap, RM20 each
Packed full with the nourishing benefits of cocoa butter and cocoa powder, this delicious peppermint-scented soap leaves skin pampered and invigorated. We reckon this would make a great gift for teenagers and the young-at-heart.

What we like most about Lullabelle Handmade is that all its products are incredibly cute, combining founder Patricia Yau’s love for zakka (handmade household items) and art. From the bear-shaped soaps to fabric-wrapped rose lipbalms, it’s hard to fight the temptation to buy everything from her e-store. Many of Lullabelle’s products are customizable; new mothers who want the best for their babies can order a bath of breast milk soap (using their own breast milk, of course). There’s even an option to order soap for your pets, too!

Purple Magical Ointment, RM10 each
Made from purple gromwell root (which has amazing healing properties) and a blend of essential oils, this all-purpose balm comes housed in a pretty tin that you can carry with you anywhere. It can be used to soothe redness, irritation, bug bites, rashes and even acne.

Doctor Shelby Kho has an interesting day job. Instead of seeing patients, she makes beauty products. In fact, she’s so obsessed with all things French that her brand name and its products are all inspired by the iconic land of love. Bisou Bon Bon is also known for its body scrubs and bath salts, available in relaxing scents like Lavender, Rose and Lemongrass. Now this is one doctor we wouldn’t mind seeing on a regular basis.

Solid Perfume, RM18 each
These pocket-sized babies are inspired by the beauty of France: Paris (inspired by love, with a ylang ylang note), Provence (inspired by lavender fields, with notes of lavender and geranium) and Lorraine (inspired by citrus fields, with notes of bergamot and patchouli). The price is budget-friendly, too!

Founded by Le Thanh Thuy (a Vietnamese fashion designer) and Dr. Mike Thair (an Australian scientist), Indochine Natural’s conception was inspired by an ancient herb street in Hanoi and the spice trade in Malacca and Penang during the 18th century. All the products are made in Penang, and the entire production and sourcing process is carried out with ethical sustainability in mind. Indochine Natural products can also be found in Singapore, North America and Australia.

Lavender, Geranium and Clary Sage essential oils transform your bathroom into a home spa. The shampoo is also blended with organic raw honey and rice bran oil, which nourishes hair without weighing it down.
