Colours of November: Opulent Autumn 2013

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]
Hello November! The weather in Malaysia has been rather erratic lately, but with more cool evenings to enjoy, we’re not really complaining. But dreary, rainy days call for rich, decadent colours to keep our moods lifted. Here’s Emmagem’s roundup of Autumn’s ‘it’ shades, which not only flatter Asian complexions, but are also super-easy to incorporate into your daily makeup routine!

Navy Blue

The season’s hottest shade is translated into understated elegance. For work, try a slick of navy blue cream eyeliner, winged out at the corners into a subtle cat-eye. Night-time outings call for more glitz, so shade the eyelid with metallic gold or bronze eyeshadow before layering on navy shadow on the outer corners to open up your eyes. Not a makeup person? Adorn your nails with a punk-rock inspired colour packed full of glitter.

Army Green

Camouflage prints are seriously in trend right now, so complement your outfit with an equally chic shade. When paired together with matte neutral shades like khaki and camel, army green eyeshadow either accentuates your tan, or makes your look fairer, depending on your skin tone. Either way, it’s a flattering departure from the usual black eyeliner. When it comes to colours, remember: less is more.

Mocha Brown

Who said brown is boring? Well, not when it’s done correctly! Instead of just one shade, play with two or three varying hues of brown: light, medium and dark, to effectively contour and define your eyes. The idea is to make your eyes look more deep-set and soulful. Rule of thumb: always apply the lighter colours first, followed by darker ones. That way, your eye makeup won’t look messy.

Rose Plum

If you can’t live without your red lipstick, why not try a deeper, sexier shade this season? Plush and sensual, a deep rose gives your pout more character, without making you look like a vampire. As far as textures go, opt for a creamy, highly pigmented finish. On cheeks, save the baby pink blush for next year and up the ante with a deeper rose-tinted hue, which makes your cheekbones appear razor-sharp.
