What To Pack For A Weekend Getaway

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]
Going on a holiday during the weekend? Sometimes, it’s harder to pack for a 2-day getaway than a one-week trip! Space is of the essence, and you don’t have the liberty of bringing along more ‘just-in-case’ stuff.
Personally, I don’t like to break my beauty routine, even when I travel. But I’ve learned to keep it less complicated when I’m in a foreign bathroom with equally-foreign lighting, where it takes longer to get ready. Plus, it’s important to only bring with you what works! Leave the brand-new products at home and stick to what you’re comfortable with. The worst thing about being on holiday is to have an allergic reaction, which renders your camera useless save for taking scenery photos (no selfies – where’s the fun in that?).
Here’s how to survive the elements of the unknown with a super-basic yet totally effective beauty kit that will make sure you still look like yourself, despite the odds.

In the car/plane…
Sturdy (not fragile!) items that are able to withstand heat and some banging around. This back-to-basics kit keeps you looking good and smelling fresh, even after a long journey. Stash these in a cute drawstring bag or zippered pouch to prevent them from getting lost in the recesses of your handbag.
  • Tinted lip balm
  • Pressed powder compact
  • Facial blotters
  • Perfume vial

In your luggage…
Since you’re only going away for the weekend, only bring along what you need. Multi-tasking products take up less space, so you don’t have to lug around a super-heavy bag. In place of moisturiser, use a sleeping mask for an intense hydration boost, both day and night. Just make sure it’s a lightweight gel that won’t burden your skin. Decant bulky items like cleanser, toner and body lotion into small jars or bottles to save even more luggage space. Sheet masks work well to de-stress after a long day, and don’t forget sunblock for face and body! Plus, bring along a pimple gel – you never know when a zit decides to rear its ugly head.
  • Makeup remover wipes
  • Cleanser
  • Toner spray
  • Tinted sunblock/primer with SPF
  • Spray-type sunscreen
  • Gel-type sleeping mask
  • Pimple gel
  • Sheet masks
  • Body lotion

Packing tips:
  • When packing, make sure all your fluids stay upright, and tubes are to be stored cap side upwards.
  • Prevent potential spills by sealing toners/shampoo/perfumes in a zip-lock bag.
  • Tuck your toiletry bag in between your clothes, or wrap it in your towel. Make sure it fits snugly.
  • Think quantity, not volume. A 250ml toner bottle takes up more space than a travel-sized sample.

Happy holidays!
