We're Obsessing Over: Celeb Looks in Music Videos

[As published on Emmagem.com HERE]
Ever since The Amazing Spider Man 2 came out, I’ve been rather obsessed with the closing song, It’s On Again (the video also stars current hot stuff Pharrell Williams, who doesn’t do much in the video except stand around. But he co-wrote the song, so…).
I couldn’t help but notice that Alicia Keys’ makeup looked amazing (her funny-looking undercut, not so much). And best of all, it looked easy enough to recreate without spending a bomb on makeup products you’d never use again.
So this week’s post is inspired by our favourite celeb looks in music videos. Let’s channel our inner Alicias, Shakiras or Katys and ROAR with pride!

Alicia Keys in It’s On Again
The look: Slightly punk-rock inspired with a feminine twist: charcoal-grey cat eye liner paired with striking pink lips (undercut optional).
Key items:

MAC Fluidline in Blitz & Glitz, RM75. Laneige Serum Intense Lipstick in Flair Magenta, RM70 (bottom shade)
How to get Alicia’s look:
  1. Prep skin with tinted moisturiser and loose powder for a translucent finish.
  2. Pull the eyelid taut with one hand and trace the lashline with gel eyeliner with the other hand. This gives you a straight line.
  3. Extend the eyeliner upwards and outwards at the outer corner.
  4. Draw one more line, starting from the inner corner of the eye, going slightly higher to create a dramatic look.
  5. Join the end of the second line with the first flick, and fill in completely.
  6. Apply bright pink lipstick directly from the tube for a semi-creamy effect. If you want a matte look, blot with tissue and reapply, then blot again.

Shakira in Empire
The look: Perfectly flawless skin that seems to glow from within. Overall makeup is nude, with defined brows, beige lips and a healthy flush on the cheeks.
Key items:

NYX Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator in Sunbeam, from Sephora. Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream Swirl Compact SPF30 PA++, RM175 (case + refill). Kate Eyebrow Color N, RM32
How to get Shakira’s look:
  1. Apply moisturiser and sunblock before foundation. This helps it adhere to skin better.
  2. Dot liquid highlighter on higher areas of the face like forehead, nose bridge, cheekbones and chin to bring out your features.
  3. Using your middle and ring fingertips, pat on cream foundation to hide dullness and uneven skin tone, especially around the eyes, nose and mouth area.
  4. For higher coverage, you can use a sponge.
  5. Set with a light dusting of translucent shimmery loose powder.
  6. Lighten your brow colour by brushing them with brow mascara.
  7. Sweet bronzer over the cheekbones, and finish off with creamy beige-pink lipstick.

Lily Allen in It’s Hard Out Here
The look: A playful but totally wearable eyeliner look that features a dramatic black flick and lush lashes, accentuated with gold glitter on the inner corners of the eyes.
Key items:

Nip + Fab CC Cream, RM75, from Luxola. Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant, RM100. Collection Cosmetics Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner, RM22.90
How to get Lily’s look:
  1. Prep skin with CC Cream and loose powder for a semi-matte look so that your eye makeup stands out.
  2. Draw a basic cat eye liner look (same technique as Alicia Keys’ look), and bring it up until the crease of your eyelid.
  3. Curl lashes (we like Shiseido’s Eyelash Curler) and apply two coats of lengthening mascara.
  4. Dot glitter eyeliner on the inner corners of the yes, right above where the black eyeliner ends.
  5. Allow to dry, and repeat until you achieve your desired intensity.
  6. Brush bronzer at the base of the cheekbones.
  7. To finish, add a coat of clear lipgloss or lipbalm.

Katy Perry in Unconditionally
The look: Totally innocent soft brows with minimal eye makeup, with a smattering of baby pink blusher on the cheeks, and magenta lips to complete the look.
Key Items:
shu uemura Tint In Gelato in PK01, RM90. Benefit Hervana, RM110. Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm in Whimsical, RM35.90
How to get Katy’s look:
  1. Hide all imperfections with concealer. Skip foundation and loose powder for a sheer look.
  2. Fill in eyebrows, curl lashes and apply two coats of mascara.
  3. Dot a small amount of cheek tint on the back of your hand. Use your fingertips to blend and then apply on your cheeks using fast patting movements. Repeat if necessary.
  4. Using a fluffy blush brush (not the brush that comes with the blusher), sweep pink blusher over the length of the cheekbones to make them pop.
  5. Apply a shiny magenta lipstick directly from the tube. For a stained look, apply the colour with your fingertips.

Yuna in I Wanna Go
The look: Simple eye and lip makeup that’s suitable for all occasions. Eyes are subtly lined and lips are filled in with a creamy shade of coral-pink.
Key Items:
L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Blackbuster, RM39.90. MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Smart & Sweet, RM88
How to get Yuna’s look:
  1. Replace your face cream with tinted moisturiser for an instantly flawless finish. We like Olay Total Effects Touch of Foundation, RM39.90.
  2. Set with a light dusting of loose powder to control shine.
  3. Using a felt-tip eyeliner, line the eyes from corner to corner, winging it out slightly at the outer corner.
  4. Remember to keep the line as thin as possible.
  5. Coat lips with a creamy peachy-pink lipstick that brings out a healthy skin tone.
  6. Skip the blusher for a more casual look, but highlight the cheekbones and nose bridge with pearly eyeshadow.
