No, It's No Too Late For A/W2014 Beauty Trends

[As published on HERE]
As the rest of the world gets ready to rock their fall outfits, we’re stuck with hazy weather and scorching sun that basically leaves us with no choice but to step out in lightweight, loose-fitting clothes to remain sane for the rest of the day. However, you can still rock these Autumn/Winter 2014 beauty looks, which are low-maintenance, easy-to-recreate and most importantly, practical (since we’ve already whittled off the not-so-realistic ones).

Mega-metallic eyeshadow
Best reserved for evenings, metallic eyeshadow makes a major appearance along lower lashlines, giving eyes a well-needed sparkle (especially if it’s been a long day at work). Choose pearly white, almost-silver shades ala Donna Karan and accentuate the inner eye corners, or go more dramatic like Libertine models, with a winged flick on the upper eyelid, and satin-finish white all along the lower lashline. If you’re in the mood for some colour, a hint of metallic copper on the inner lower lashline is a subtle touch, but be sure to keep the rest of the face bare like shown on Issey Miyake models.

Twiggy-worthy lashes
Lashes are back, and unabashedly so. Forget natural-looking ones; the more drama, the better. Pay tribute to spidery lashes of the late 1990s like Prada (complete with baby blue eyeshadow), or go for a feathery upper lash effect as seen at Versace. Want more? Go one step futher with equally kawaii lower lashes like those seen at Rochas. The trick to make this look current, not dated, is to keep everything else to a bare minimum – skip blusher if you can, and finish off with a slick of tinted lipbalm or sheer lip colour.

Upside-down eyeliner
This is kinda cool in a totally weird way, but best reserved for girls with double eyelids or wide, deep-set eyes. Either trace the lower lashlines all the way like at Marc by Marc Jacobs, or line them partially. Thakoon does a natural take on the look with brown eyeliner on the outer two-thirds of the lashline, while Missoni goes grunge by smudging dark eyeshadow on the outer half of the eye only, creating a punk-inspired look that’s not too Taylor Momsen, and much classier (if you ask me).

No-lipstick lips
Sometimes, the best look is the simplest. Forget highly glossed-up lips or dark colours from last Autumn/Winter – this year it’s all about bare lips. No matter what your eye makeup looks like (either electric blue  ala Kenzo, seductively flicked out ala D&G or even non-existent ala 3.1 Phillip Lim), the no-lipstick look goes well with anything. Prevent unsightly flaking or cracking by applying a thick layer of clear lipbalm before going to bed, and keep one close in case of emergency touch-ups.
